Have you ever faced a situation and you simply didn’t know what to do? You wish you were more intelligent and had more wisdom and experience to solve the problem you face. In the season of life I am currently in these thoughts flitted across my mind while I was sipping my coffee and contemplating the stuff of life: “I need wisdom. I wish I had heaven’s IQ….”
“I wish I just knew what to do about _________. If only I were a genius, then I would know what to do.”
I sat quietly a moment and heard these words whisper across my back porch and into my ears, “You have the mind of Christ.”
Instantly I grabbed my Bible and looked up this verse, knowing I had read these words before. There it was in black and white….1 Corinthians 2:16 “‘For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?’ But we have the mind of Christ.” (ESV)
Then I read it in the Message. “Spiritually alive, we have access to everything God’s Spirit is doing, and can’t be judged by unspiritual critics. Isaiah’s question, “Is there anyone around who knows God’s Spirit, anyone who knows what he is doing?” has been answered: Christ knows, and we have Christ’s Spirit.”
REALLY???? I’ve heard this verse often in my years as a believer, but never really considered that I (ME, MYSELF, AND I) can have the MIND OF CHRIST! There it is….HEAVEN’S IQ, THE MIND OF CHRIST, available to me as a believer.
Stunning revelation for me!
Sitting and letting my mind absorb this truth, I wondered why I DON’T live in this reality. Yes, there have been times when I DIDN’T HAVE A CLUE what to do about something, and yes, I prayed, and yes, God showed me what to do.
HEAVEN’S IQ invading my world….
So why don’t I tap into this Biblical promise if I truly believe God’s Word as truth? I think it all boils down to one thing for the most part….impatience.
We want answers and we want answers NOW! Like the little silver parachutes sent to bring relief in the Hunger Games, we want God to drop down a little parachuted capsule with an answer inside while we sit and wait. Or better yet, God could slip us a note in a fortune cookie left by our dinner plate with instructions clearly written on a tiny slip of paper telling us to do this or go there.
Forgetting some all important verses of scripture that contain promises for God’s children, we sit and wait or strive and worry…..forgetting we, as believers and children of God, indeed do have HEAVEN’S IQ!
Can I prove to you that you too can have this amazing insight? I mentioned above from I Cor. 2:16 that we have the mind of Christ! (Sit and think on that for a while!!) So let’s consider a few other places we are promised what I love to call HEAVEN’S IQ…
Philippians 4:6-7 (MSG)
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
James 1:5-8 (MSG)
If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open.
Job 12:13 (MSG)
True wisdom and real power belong to God; from him we learn how to live, and also what to live for.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (MSG)
Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
Can I sum up these incredible truths in a couple of sentences for me and you?
The God of all wisdom and understanding WANTS us to bring our life-concerns to Him who has all of the answers. God wants to give us HEAVEN’S IQ to help us learn, grow, and live the life He has for us with the help we so desperately need.
WOW!! That gets me so excited!! I hope it infuses you with peace and instills a desire in you to seek God for the answers you need!
And if you need even more proof, read in the gospel of John, chapters 14-16 about Jesus’ promise that when He left this earth, the Holy Spirit would be sent to be our FRIEND, COUNSELOR, HELPER, and TEACHER! What more do we need??
Help is available; HEAVEN’S IQ is attainable.
We need only ask and believe!
